Mix Feedback from others:

  • I am working in hip hop mostly! And my opinion is I would rebalance drums so side stick will pop out more and maybe will add small amount of delay or reverb so its geting more ambient, under 808 vocals get buried!

  • Too much low end. Sounds like everything has a low pass filter on it, but thats more likely due to severe over compression which is flattening everything. There’s pretty much no brightness or high end anywhere in the song. Things are muffled because everything feels unfocused. It almost like the majority of the tracks are in stereo, and the song is wide, but unbalanced because there’s nothing in the center making it feel hollow. Are you able to move the bass so that it is more narrow and in the center channel? That’d probably help give the song some focus instantly. I’d do that, cut out some low end from the 808, kick, and lead vocal, and go easier on the compression.

      • At 31 sec, 37 sec, etc. there’s what sounds like an “808”. It’s occupying the low end of your mix. It sounds too wide to me and is hurting the dynamics, stereo image, and clarity of your song.

      • I’d start there with an eq cutting low frequencies from the 808, kick, and vocal with a high pass filter up until the point where they still retain their character, but you gain some extra headroom. Then I’d try to clean up my stereo image to give the song some sense of direction by focusing my low end i see you’re using waves plugins do you have “Center” or the “S1 Imager” I’d give those a shot on the 808 to narrow it out because it sounds super wide. As far as the vocal goes, it actually doesn’t sound that bad, It just has some harshness that could be eq’d out during the “breathier parts” and it just over all sounds flat (most likely due to over compression but the entire song sounds the same way) if you do have an exciter on the vocal track check your signal chain, since im sure the compressor is completely stepping on whatever you excited. I’d check my compressor settings. (too high of a ratio, too low of a threshold, too fast of an attack time could all squash your sound) The song just needs some balance and brightness.
