This track features some acoustic guitar lead playing. My intent was to create an atmospheric track with big sustaining lead guitars to compliment the acoustic melody. For added textures, I used a Strat purposely sitting behind the acoustic lead. I played all instruments and mixed the track in Pro Tools using my arsenal of Plug in Alliance, Soundtoy and UAD plug ins. All electric guitars were tracked through various Kemper profiles.
Really diggin’ the guitar tracks! Great work! As a bass player, the bass track sounds good, especially considering it was tracked with EzBass – the tone really matches the song! Great work!
Thank you for listening and for the kind words. I do prefer using real players and many of my songs do feature a real bass player who is very talented. When he is unavailable, I rely on EZ Bass because I tend to work quickly.
Sounds great. Nice smooth tunes. Which drums do you use?
I used Superior Drummer 3. I favor the Pearl kit with the 18x22or 18×26 kick drum. I often wish I had the resources to record a full kit with a live drummer. Even my new bass lines are tracked through the new Toontrack EZ Bass plug in. Thanks for listening.
Yeah if you can’t get a real drummer, I’d try playing around with the velocities a little bit on the superior drummer. It’s just slightly noticeable that it’s not a real human playing 😉
Thanks for your suggestions. Admittedly, I do even out the velocities to be equal. Per your recommendation, I should refrain from doing this, correct?
Correct, or just make sure there’s a little bit more variance to humanize it. When the velocities are the same, it triggers the same velocity sample which makes it too perfect to sound like a real drummer… hitting the drum in the exact same place, at the exact same volume… I mean, us drummers are perfect in many ways, just not that way 😉
