I originally wrote this song back in 1994 after breaking up with a girlfriend. I had just finished listening to the Zoo by the Scorpions and started playing the phrases in this song on my guitar. It captured well my mixed sense of angst and longing in that moment. The song was very well received when I performed it live in the various metal/rock bands I was in during the late 90’s. (fit well during the Grunge era) I re-recorded it a couple of months back. It has an absolutely soul-crushing riff that is heavy and slow, juxtaposed against an almost uplifting hook that never delivers the happiness your waiting for, just crushes you again in the despair of the main riff. (A friend who listened to it said it was so dark and heavy it made him want to kill himself.)
I recorded this using a couple of Gibson guitar equipped with EMG H4/H4A pick-up, AVID pre-amps, celestion cabinets, Audio-Technica and Shure microphones, a Tascam 8 Track, with a Yamaha keyboard for the bass, drums, organ and piano.
Love the music! Just a similar situation on this one with the mix coming across pretty thin. It’s mostly noticeable on the drums and guitars
