I started to compose the music by associating sounds of synths which I liked, and putting together with the idea of using TR-808 sounds. I quickly liked the hovering side of the instruments which contrasted with the more assertive presence of the drums. I tried to program the guitar solo to sound as natural as possible (it’s a Kontakt sound bank). I wanted this song sound like 80’s.
For one of the first times, I didn’t treat the song like the 5th wheel of the carriage (French expression ! Lol)! I took care of the intonations, provided a particular care to the musicality, and above all, I worked a lot and did a real job to warm up my voice properly. I then took care of the sound…
I want to have the more professional result possible by working on the box.
The synths and drums all sound amazing. The vocals seem to be sitting on top of the mix instead of in the mix. Kinda like a karaoke version. I’d try hi passing and/or reducing a little bit of the vocal low end to make it seem like they are in the same space as the instruments.
Thank you for your comment. In the French song, the song is often put very forward, so that the text is very understandable. I think the way of mixing differs from english spoken music… But it’s true that I tend to emphasize the singer too much !
