No complaints, well done. everything is nice and clean. Great guitar tone on the lead in the left channel. If I had to point out something I might do differently, it would be bring the lead vox a bit, there are a couple of spots the guitars get in front of it. Well done!
thanks Ray. I truly appreciate the feedback. That great guitar (all 3 of them in the song) is the incomparable Brent Mason. He’s a beast
great! a classic sound. Tasty guitar licks.
Thank you Glenn! That’s Brent Mason on guitar. In fact he’s playing guitar on 3 of the 4 tracks I’ve posted here. Check out his slide work on Play Muddy
I think zakkleifeste nailed it. Love the song though!
Appreciate it Casey! It’s on my soundcloud page. stop by some time!
Vocals sound good. Guitars sound good. I think my biggest issue is the drums being a little thin. Also, the bass feels like it’s only sub bass and nothing else. Is it being low-passed pretty hard?
Thanks as always Zach. I went back and checked as to what I had done with the bass. I agree it sounds different. I talked myself into liking the big bottom it brings but your ear pointed out the funky eq going on with it. I remember fighting the mud on this tune while trying to push the bass guitar. On the bass track I wound up with a slight boost at 100 but at a couple plugs working to cut around 200, including a dynamic eq. Watching it in action showed the total reduction to not be more than 5-6 db with a medium Q. The first plug in the chain is a dbx160 set at 2:1 and it’s providing an average of 10 db of GR. So, given all that, I probably did more damage to the bass tone than helped solve my problem. Where would you start?
Does the bass have any highs you can let through? Sometimes they might not depending on the bass players set up.
