Written by a friend of mine, Took the audio files from the original Pro Tools session and brought them into Cubase 10.5 for the mix. Converted the acoustic drum tracks to midi and output them using Slate’s SSD5.5. Brent Mason on guitars and Al Oikari of Big WU on organs/B3 . My friend Martin played bass and did the vocals. It’s more of a “Southern Rock” tune than Country.
Love Brents guitar work! I felt the delay on the lead vocal was a little more than I’m used to for country. I like a little snappier snare to drive the beat. Had a cool, “almost live” vibe going!
Good mix. Would like to heard a bit more bass
Wow great mix! Were the acoustic drum tracks bad? What made you convert them to MIDi?
Thanks! The drum tracks were okay but I always want what’s best for the final sound. I would have still used samples for the kick & snare but I opted to make sure I had full control over the entire kit and keeping it locked to the grid, that’s why I opted for full conversion. The acoustic tracks would not have sounded this good. Once the drums are smack on the grid, it makes it easier to edit the other tracks to make it as tight as possible.
Gotcha. Samples are getting pretty good now a days 😉
Tight and clear. Damn near perfect. Extremely well written and arranged song all around. Technically perfect lead guitar lines.
Thanks! Yeah, Brent Mason is one of the top session guitarists in Nashville.
