We had tracked this in a studio back in 2014 and never finished the project. We have remixed the stems from that session and are planning to retrack vocals but we feel like this is the mix we’ll go with for the instrumental.

I love the tones on everything. Reverb is nice. The only issue I hear is that there is a bit too much low end. Just on the bass and kick. When are those vocals getting tracked? Got nothin but time during quarantine 😉
Thanks! We had been thinking the same thing about the low end and this confirms we should pull it back some even though we love that ghetto bass. We were game planning last night about what tracks are ready for vocals and that one is first on the list for sometime this week. We’re thinking about going with the 7B we’ve been demoing with or trying to rent a U87. Any ideas or strong recommendations on mics? Also I was curious if it would make sense to put a 7B pretty much between the U87 and Pasquales mouth instead of a pop filter so we could get both signals. Just not sure if there’s a sound physics reason I haven’t seen anybody do it like that
If you go with the SM7B almost every person I’ve talked to says you need a CloudLifter with it.
But if you have the option for a U87 that’s probably what I would go with.
Also I don’t think I would put 1 mic in front of the other. It seems like that would block the sound going directly into the U87. Maybe side by side though
Sweet I noticed the same thing with the 7B needing the cloud lifter. I think we’re gonna try them side by side just to figure out what works best moving forward. I’m secretly hoping the 7B can hold it’s own because we already have one and a cloudlifter for it but I’d hate to mess up the Vox by taking the cheap way out so I think we’re gonna rent one to make sure
Don’t worry. The SM7B isn’t the cheap way out. It’s a SUPER popular vocal mic right now. Some people prefer it over the more expensive mics.
