Mix Description

Here’s my take on the mix. I used a dose of stereo spread. I gave it a modern day mixing style and the warmth of analog using external and internal gear. I used an external tremelo pan effect on the 2 track mixdown. I think that’s a better approach to the effect i think they were looking for. Gives it that famous chopping sound. Might not be perfect, but it gets the job done. There’s no such thing as a perfect mix. This particular one is just that. You have to compromise things in mixes like this. Many tracks and only 2 speakers lol. I used doubling on some of the tracks to spread them out. This isn’t a heavy metal song. Many mixes i listened to have guitars way out front on the chorus. There’s other instruments lol. Every track can’t fight for the main event lol. I didn’t mix them dry or at unity gain across the mix. Too much competition lol. I used probably over 125db of compression in this mix. There’s 38 tracks to squeeze out of 2 speakers. I gave the snare a picollo snare sound and used lexicon 480l vintage reverb to wet it. This song is amazing. The verse sounds totally retro style from mid 80s. The chorus would make Amy Lee jealous and return to singing lessons again.

Mix Feedback from others:

  • I’m in love with the guitar solo. It definitely has that ole 70s Jimmy Paige vibe from stairway to heaven solo in the first few measures. Great job buddy! You nailed it! The drums are tight and he lays back at the perfect moments. I’m thinking They could’ve used drum triggers for the fill possibly.. This song reminds me of my favorite way of making and creating music. Mass Fuse different genre and era into an action packed hit song. You’ll do better. Today’s kids favorite flavors and the parents also. This is my rough master and haven’t listened in there car yet. I’ll maybe tweak a few things before tomorrow night.
