Mix Description

This was a collaborative effort with myself mixing the tracks in Canada, and friends sending me their files from the UK. A lockdown project amongst friends.
The participants are all relatively inexperienced studio engineers and required my guidance on how to assemble their tracks. I then mixed and mastered the song and played rhythm guitar, sang the choruses and 4th verse.

Mix Feedback from others:

  • Wow! That sounds awesome. I felt like I was listening to some Tom Petty 🙂

Anything I have to say about the mix is super minor. I thought there were a few S’s that were a little harsh on the “2nd male vocal”? Not sure how to describe it. Also for the cowbell, I probably would’ve pitched it down a little bit. It sounded a little too metronomy and I was hoping for more Will Ferrell in Blue Oyster Cult 😉

    • Thanks kindly for taking the time to listen & comment. Yes, there’s some harsh sibilance on the 2nd vocalist, who just purchased a Rode NT1 for these tracks. His settings were a little aggressive and I’ve done what I could tame somewhat, but in rush mixes, he asked for his levels to be brought up, which brought some of this back.

This was all done very quickly and each vocalist was using very lofi signal paths, inexpensive mics (dynamic stage mics in some cases). I’ve done what I can with limited time to make this sound cohesive and as polished as it could be with a very short tiing for turnaround.

We’re contributing this track to a fundraising initiative for UK artists and this was a very quick timeline of about 7 days to get this all complete.

Again, thanks for taking the time to listen & leave some feedback. Most appreciated!
