Mix Description

With their reunion tour this summer, we track a little bit of a tribute. This was recorded to a Sony/MCI JH-24 and mixed on an Otari Concept Elite. (I am really old school). No digital editing, no pitch correction (it is definitely NOT perfect) only digital was the outbard effects.

Mix Feedback from others:

  • I like old school 😉 there seems to be some low energy that’s rumbling down there, but I can’t make out any specific notes. Did you do any boosting of the hi end on the OH/cymbals?

    • No boosting on the cymbals. Mics we SUPER bright (first time using Baby Bottles for overheads, not super thrilled) That low energy you hear is the damn LOW G below the low B. The bass player just got a 7 string and try as I might, he insisted on rumbling on that low string, about drive me nuts)

      • This is now a hobby for all of us, and we agreed, long ago, that everyone gets the final say on the instruments they play. This was actually mixed in an absurdly loud environment. Lots of alcohol, very party atmosphere. I think it sounds better louder (like through a PA) It’s all fun now.

BTW I think you give good feedback and rate fairly. That one gospel mic you rated a 10 is an example of my “paid work”

      • Thanks ? I appreciate that. I’m glad y’all can have a good time around mixing. That’s what it’s all about 😉

      • The goal of this site is to help us all grow by training our ears to listen to for things that don’t sound right. At the same time it’s a place to build better mixes for the people that post them.

I try to be as honest as possible without sounding like a total jerk lol
